Build the Ages and its games are run by Prime Signal Marketing LLC. This page says what we store, where it is kept and how to remove it. Questions go to support@buildtheages.com.

If you play without an account

Your save stays in your browser's local storage. Clearing the browser's site data removes it, so export a copy from Settings if it matters to you.

The game still checks in with our servers about every ten minutes while it is open. This is called presence. Each report holds:

We keep this with the time we first and last saw that id and a count of sessions. We use it to see how many people are playing and to send in-game gifts to a player. It has no set expiry.

If you create an account

We store your email address, your password and recovery phrase as salted hashes (PBKDF2), never as plain text, and a cloud save for each game you sign in to. Signing in also links your email address and account id to your presence record, so the two can be read together.

Signing in sets one cookie, __Host-bta_session, on our accounts address. It keeps you signed in for 30 days from last use and is used for nothing else. Each game and this site also keep a sign-in token in your browser's local storage. Password reset links last 30 minutes.

Optional notifications

If you turn on notifications, your browser gives us a push address and keys, which we store with your player id, along with what is due and when, and your city's name for the message wording. Your browser's push service (run by your browser's maker) delivers the message. Turning notifications off makes us forget the address and the timers.

Payments

Purchases go through Stripe Checkout, on Stripe's own pages. You give your card details and email to Stripe, and we never see your card number. We tell Stripe which item you chose, which game it is for and your player id. We keep a record of what was bought, when, and by which player id, so that it can be delivered and restored. To restore a purchase you can give an email address, which we use to ask Stripe for matching purchases and do not store.

Who else handles your data

Cloudflare
Runs our servers and stores accounts, cloud saves, presence records, purchase records and notification details. Cloudflare's network is worldwide, so this data may be handled outside your country.
Stripe
Takes payments, as above, under its own privacy policy.
Resend
Sends password reset emails. It receives your email address and the message.
Your browser's push service
Delivers notifications if you turn them on.
Google Fonts
Serves the typefaces on our web pages, so Google sees your IP address when a page loads them.

We do not sell your data. The games show no advertising and contain no third-party analytics.

Your IP address reaches our servers with every request. We use it to limit abuse, and those counters expire within their time window. Cloudflare also handles it as our host.

Removing your data

You can delete your account in the game, under Settings, with your password. That erases your account record and your cloud save in every game, and removes your email address and account id from our player list. An anonymous record of the city's progress may remain.

It does not erase the purchase records kept by us and by Stripe. Write to support@buildtheages.com from your account's address and we will remove the presence record and tell you what must be kept for payment records. The same address handles any request to see or correct what we hold, including a player id with no account: the id is shown nowhere public, so include your city's name and game.

Children

These games are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has made an account, write to us and we will delete it.

Changes

When what we do changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top moves.
